Small Bronze Japanese Sitting Ram: A real conversation piece! Beautiful deep reddish brown patina. Antique Japanese bronze Ram, decorated in a beautiful patina inlayed color. In great condition and is of original red brown and green finish. A lot of bronze sculptures have been stolen, likely because of the value of the metal after the work has been melted. Few large ancient bronzes have survived, as many were melted down to make weapons or ammunition in times of war or to create new sculptures commemorating the victors, while far more stone and ceramic works have come through the centuries. Bronze is widely used for cast metal sculpture . Common bronze alloys often have the unusual and very desirable property of expanding slightly just before they set, thus filling in the finest details of a mould. Bronze has resistance to corrosion by sea water along with several bronze alloys. Bronze also has very little metal-on-metal friction, which made it invaluable for the building of cannons where iron cannonballs would otherwise stick in the barrel.
