Mid Century Modern Lucite Sculpture unsigned By the artist Alessio Tasca Modern, prismatic lucite tower sculpture was created and signed by the Italian artist Alessio Tasca (born 1929.). He is also well known for his ceramics. This is one of his best lucite pieces measuring H-17” D-3 1/2” W- 3 1/2” It’s approximate weight 8 lbs. This piece is best displayed and viewed standing up, but can also be laid down. There are many different angles that reflect and capture the light to create a prismatic look. It is difficult to see any chips, or scratches, other than the ones I tried to show in the photos. There is no crazing or hazing or yellowing. Just the expected wear and tear for the age. Similar pieces, but smaller, by Tasco are Highly collectible.
Manufactured by pouring acrylic casting resin into a mold. Embedments are acrylic trophies that have an item embedded into the resin. Many materials can be placed in an embedment – paper, metal, acetate sheets, etc. This creates the effect of an item floating within the acrylic statue.
Made from Lucite, a branded form of acrylic developed by DuPont. One of the earliest uses of Lucite was in windshields for fighter planes during World War II. Following the war, DuPont promoted various consumer applications of Lucite, including its use in lamps, beer taps, hairbrushes, and jewelry. By virtue of its versatility, Lucite opened up a range of possible design options for toys, trophies, and art
(Cast Acrylic). Because of the high amount of technical knowledge required, the total number of actual manufacturers remains very small.
