Antique, early 19th century, hand carved Chinese laughing Mask with Sichuan origins. Wooden hand carved theater mask in a dark natural patina with carved out eyes, with red human hair. The design and the position of the eyes and mouths give the feeling of a real strong presence. It is likely that this mask has never been repainted and shows it original brown and black patina with important areas exhibiting natural patina of use, which is rather unusual for Chinese mask. The piece shows some signs of use and is approximately 150 years old, and is in very good condition. Height: 10 inches and wide: 7 inches, Sichuan China
