Inspired by graffiti art, comics and children’s books, his works combine vivid colors and dynamic compositions. Chris developed a deep fascination for graffiti art/hip-hop culture, comic book and children’s book art at a young age. He carefully studied the bold color schemes from graffiti, the line work and dynamic compositions shown in comics, and the dreamy imagery present in children’s books. From these studies he absorbed enough visuals and information to hone a style he now calls his own. Chris B. Murray was born in a small Upstate New York town. Ambitious from an early age and knowing greater things were meant for him, he took it upon himself to seek those answers through art. He spent countless hours creating, seeking and manipulating visuals, which ultimately led him to enroll into R.I.T. (Rochester, NY) where he refined his studies and majored in illustration. After graduating he was determined to conquer the big city and relocated to Philadelphia where he currently lives with his girlfriend Emily, and their Boxer Puppy “Chunk” who shares Chris’ passion for adventure, albeit in the form of chewing furniture. Currently CBM is working on producing a new body of work for galleries, t-shirt and skateboard designs, custom toys, commissions and the list goes on. Be sure to check in periodically as he always has something cookin!Recently he was accepted into the Society of Illustrators, 3x3 mag, and Creative Quarterly. *Clients - Harlequin Publishing, The New Yorker, The NY Times, XXL, West Chester Magazine, The Deal LLC, Backpacker, 5280, Vegas Seven, Boys’ Life, Dirt Rag, Crystal Dynamics, iam8bit / SONY, Machinima Film Festival, Dynamite Comics, Gourmet Shows, Man Bites Dog Records, Suburban Noize Records, Mane Fragrance, Six Red Marbles, Blue Cadet Creative, BIG SMACK TV, Norman Reedus, Kevin Smith & more. *Galleries - Gallery1988, Rotofugi, Thinkspace, Distinction Gallery, Gallery Nucleus, Art Whino, Spoke Art, iam8bit, Arch Enemy Arts, Jinxed Philadelphia, London Miles (UK) *Awards & Features - The Society of Illustrators, Creative Quarterly 22/24 mention, ImagineFX, Spectrum, Revista Gooo, Juxtapoz, Hi-Fructose, Commarts, Ape on the Moon, Illustration Age + more. *All of the art is edited and chosen by us for its high quality and workmanship before posting. Graffiti is writing or drawings that have been scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in a public place. Graffiti ranges from simple written words to elaborate wall paintings, and it has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire. In modern times, paint (particularly spray paint) and marker pens have become the most commonly used graffiti materials. In most countries, marking or painting property without the property owner's consent is considered defacement and vandalism, which is a punishable crime. Graffiti may also express underlying social and political messages and a whole genre of artistic expression is based upon spray paint graffiti styles. Within hip hop culture, graffiti has evolved alongside hip hop music, b-boying, and other elements.[3] Unrelated to hip-hop graffiti, gangs use their own form of graffiti to mark territory or to serve as an indicator of gang-related activities. Controversies that surround graffiti continue to create disagreement amongst city officials, law enforcement, and writers who wish to display and appreciate work in public locations. There are many different types and styles of graffiti and it is a rapidly developing art form whose value is highly contested and reviled by many authorities while also subject to protection, sometimes within the same jurisdiction. The term, graffiti, referred to the inscriptions, figure drawings, and such, found on the walls of ancient sepulchers or ruins, as in the Catacombs of Rome or at Pompeii. Use of the word has evolved to include any graphics applied to surfaces in a manner that constitutes vandalism. The only known source of the Safaitic language, a form of proto-Arabic, is from graffiti: inscriptions scratched on to the surface of rocks and boulders in the predominantly basalt desert of southern Syria, eastern Jordan and northern Saudi Arabia. Safaitic dates from the first century BC to the fourth century AD.
