Handmade articulated calculation wood and brass antique rule caliper tool aid. This is as useful as any fancy model rule. Unmarked, except for the owner's mark, NO 32 neatly stamped at the top of the stock. I'd wager it's British based on the brass inlay, but I may be wrong. The outstanding feature is the brass caliper. It is straight and square. The wood is beautiful with deep red/brown grain. It is an excellent user for layout work like marking across wide boards before crosscutting. Good for woodtturners working with large hollow forms on the lathe. The articulated ruler is in good condition with a tight hinge. A caliper (British spelling also calliper, or in plurale tantum sense a pair of callipers) is a device used to measure the distance between two opposite sides of an object. A caliper can be as simple as a compass with inward or outward-facing points. The tips of the caliper are adjusted to fit across the points to be measured, the caliper is then removed and the distance read by measuring between the tips with a measuring tool, such as a ruler.
