Created by the artist Zac Emmanuel, this limited edition print is an original AI and digital painting inspired by Parmigianino's 'Madonna with a Long Neck.' It serves as the first image from a series dedicated to the French poet Lautréamont. The digital painting emphasizes male beauty and captures the exquisite style and sensitivity of Parmigianino's original work. "Madonna with a Long Neck" is a renowned painting from the Italian Renaissance. Created by the Italian artist Parmigianino, whose real name was Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, the painting was executed between 1534 and 1540. The painting's formal title is "Madonna and Child with Angels," but it is commonly referred to as the "Madonna with a Long Neck" due to the elongated proportions of the figures, particularly the neck of the Virgin Mary. The artwork measures approximately 211 cm (83 inches) in height and is currently housed in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. Parmigianino's painting is characterized by its Mannerist style, which was popular during the late Renaissance. The Mannerist artists sought to emphasize elegance, refinement, and virtuosity in their works, often employing exaggerated or elongated proportions, intricate compositions, and elongated figures. In the "Madonna with a Long Neck," the Virgin Mary is depicted in the upper portion of the painting, holding the Christ child. Surrounding them are a group of angels, some of whom are crowding together in the foreground. The figures are elongated and graceful, with delicate features and elongated limbs. The composition is asymmetrical, with the figures arranged in a complex and dynamic manner. The painting was highly influential in its time, and Parmigianino's innovative style had a significant impact on later artists. However, the unconventional proportions and composition of the "Madonna with a Long Neck" received mixed reactions from contemporaries. Some praised Parmigianino's technical skill and unique approach, while others criticized the exaggerated style as overly artificial and lacking in harmony. Today, the "Madonna with a Long Neck" is regarded as one of Parmigianino's most famous works and a significant example of Mannerist art. It continues to captivate viewers with its distinctive style and composition, showcasing the artist's talent and pushing the boundaries of artistic expression during the Renaissance.
I've been involved in visual art for many years and I can't imagine not being connected to it. For me, art is fun, but it's important that it also has a message. As a queer artist, I cannot separate my work from the LGBTQ+ community. The images of people that I create are partly romantic, sometimes dreamlike, sometimes they can have a touch of eroticism. However, I always try to make them testify that we humans have a spiritual life. That we are spiritual beings and on this level we are no different from each other. It doesn't matter what our skin color or sexual orientation is, we are all capable of creating spiritual values and enriching this world with them.
