This small Yoruba bronze sculpture shows a figure with a tiered headdress wrapped around a vessel positioned on a circular platform of a stool. The figure holds the looped handle of the stool with its left hand and a scepter in its right. Its form relates to stool containers known as apere. The handle may represent an elephant trunk. Although the age is unknown for certain, my source tells me that this is probably from the late 1800's to early 1900's. Awesome detail.
