Artist and Designer Andrew Horn: Oil on linen. Inspired by nature, the music of Richard Wagner, and the atmosphere as depicted by 19th c. artists such as Thomas Cole and the members of the Hudson River School. The Romantic soul holds on to hope, looking towards the light and serenity that lie just beyond the turbulence and darkness of human existence. Andrew Horn is an artist, furniture designer and set designer. Drawing inspiration from history, travel, museums, books, and films, he approaches art and design challenges on both an intellectual and an emotional level. He is driven by a passion for beauty and refinement in all things, from art and architecture to literature and music, as well as a hunger for new ideas and creative challenges. His time in the theatre nurtured an instinct for the dramatic in design, while giving him a foundation in the practical problems of design execution and function. Andrew’s current furniture collection, the Vienna Line, is influenced by the iconic works of the Wiener Werkstätte, and upholds the same standards of fine materials and craftsmanship

Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments that are bound with a medium of drying oil — especially in early modern Europe, linseed oil. Often an oil such as linseed was boiled with a resin such as pine resin or even frankincense; these were called 'varnishes' and were prized for their body and gloss. Other oils occasionally used include poppyseed oil, walnut oil, and safflower oil. These oils confer various properties to the oil paint, such as less yellowing or different drying times. Certain differences are also visible in the sheen of the paints depending on the oil. Painters often use different oils in the same painting depending on specific pigments and effects desired. The paints themselves also develop a particular feel depending on the medium.
