Contemporary Abstraction Art Print / 14x11” digital print edition, signed, numbered, uniquely marked, unframed. Printed on Epson Cold Press Bright Paper. Made from 100% cotton rag and using a cold press production technique, this paper features a textured matte finish. 340 gsm, 21 mil thickness, and 98% opacity. Designed for longevity, Cold Press Bright is free of acid, lignin, and chlorine and is pH buffered. Epson SureColor P9000 printer. Chris Crossen uses a variety of watercolor-on-paper techniques to explore patterns, randomness, and our perception of landscapes. This particular print abstracts from colors and space within the Eastern Sierra Nevada escarpment. For this piece, Chris utilizes wet-on-dry watercolor application, painting each cell with a very thin wash, waiting until completely dry, and then painting another layer and another, until complete. Larger pieces may comprise 5,000 hand-painted, individual cells. Layering with light and progressively darker colors creates depth and varying degrees of perception of what may be expected versus the outcome. Each painting begins with a landscape and concept, but left to the natural processes and randomness of the nature of watercolor, the control only goes so far and moments of randomness come through the composition and within each cell.

I am a painter based out of Lake Tahoe, California. My work is Inspired by time spent exploring and studying landscapes throughout the world, wilderness, and environmental change. Paintings employ elemental forms, exploring perception, patterns, randomness, and natural processes. I use various watercolor and acrylic techniques to abstract a place’s complexity | simplicity to explore how we see, remember, and attach importance, given constant flux and our very brief time here. Pieces are included in public and private collections throughout the United States and abroad.
