The quilting stitches are heirloom-quality and greatly enhance the overall design of the piece. The hand quilting of the hummingbird silhouettes in the black border gives this piece its finishing touch. The hand quilting was done to complement the hummingbirds in the Aida cloth cross stitched center panel. A wonderful floral patterned fabric as well as a muted Oriental print is incorporated around the hummingbirds giving the illusion that they are suspended in an Oriental flower garden. This is the second quilt in a series of quilts utilizing a hand cross stitched panel as the center medallion. The backing is traditional unbleached muslin and is signed and dated by the textile artist.

Quilts were originally created to provide warmth in cold climates. Now quilts have come off the bed and become textile artworks in the 20th and 21st century.
The basic premise of 2 layers of cloth with a filler of batting held together by stitching is still relevant today. Now the artworks are made out of many materials and fibers and are made to be displayed as artwork just as paintings, photographs, and tapestries.
