Amleto Cataldi (Italian, 1882-1930) Nude. Cast bronze with brown patina, signed and dated in the base, 1912, approx. 21-1/2"H. Cataldi concentrated on figural work large and small, including public sculpture and personal scale. This piece a fine example of his work, representing glorification of the unabashed female ideal so richly popular in Art Deco and Art Nouveau, executed with subtlety and sensuality. Condition: Very nice. A few minor bruises to the patina.

Bronze is widely used for cast metal sculpture . Common bronze alloys often have the unusual and very desirable property of expanding slightly just before they set, thus filling in the finest details of a mould. Bronze has resistance to corrosion by sea water along with several bronze alloys. Bronze also has very little metal-on-metal friction, which made it invaluable.
