Jeff Zygmunt is a San Francisco-based sculptor who focuses on the human form. Portrait sculpture, perhaps Zygmunt's favorite art form, has the ability to capture more than just the likeness of a model. Having learned the delicate process of portrait sculpture from Thomas Marsh,Zygmunt avidly starts with a cold mass of clay and recreates the spirit and expression of the human face. At the core of Zygmunt's methodology is analyzing every angle, curve, line and lineament which recreate not only the face but one's spirit. I graduated from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and studied at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, with an emphasis on sculpture. While at each academy, I took every opportunity to fully explore the arts of drawing, painting and sculpture. My work is built on an understanding of perspective, anatomy and composition to create works that are authentic and empowering. I reside in Northern California, where I continue to create and teach

Sculpture is three-dimensional artwork created by shaping or combining hard materials, typically stone such as marble, metal, glass, or wood, or plastic materials such as clay, textiles, polymers and softer metals. The term has been extended to works including sound, text and light.
Found objects may be presented as sculptures. Materials may be worked by removal such as carving; or they may be assembled such as by welding , hardened such as by firing, or molded or cast. Surface decoration such as paint may be applied.[1] Sculpture has been described as one of the plastic arts because it can involve the use of materials that can be moulded or modulated.
