From the Series Organica Organica: Things that happen randomly or by accident. The idea of layers, transparency, and our ability to examine things up close. To work collaboratively with a material. Not forcing an outcome. Being present to the experience. Being in the moment. These paintings evolve over time. Technically, they are more collage than paintings. I create painted “skins” on glass and then arrange them on the surface. This allows me to be more interactive with the “object/ skin”. More spontaneous and collaborative. It also gives me the chance to respond to the random things that happen in the process of glueing and cutting. Later, I go in and draw with fluid acrylics. I highlight or outline things that I find interesting in the object below. After each “session” I seal that days work in a layer of gel medium. This fixes it in time. One layer after another, layered on top. Interacting with what is below. The medium preserves the “session” as an object unto itself. An individual element that is part of a bigger whole. This metaphor represents my world view. How we are all individuals that are not alone but, part of a bigger thing called our world. (paraphrased from Joseph Bueys) This object is signed, dated and titled on the back. Made of archival materials, and artist grade acrylic paints. materials: acrylic paint, vellum, gel medium, masonite, and wood framing
