This is a very nice wooden geometric design folk art frame with unusual carving highlighting the carved folk look around the outside and it has four little metal buttons. This frame has layers of carved decoration. The surface is all wood and has taken on an extremely nice patina with some crazing. It can easily have a photo or painting within it. Overall the frame, from the early 1900's, is in very good condition with only some minor wear on a few edges and corners.

All frames have been influenced by an ancient culture or period or era; ranging from mandarin, Egyptian, greek, French to English culture from 13th century till 18th century designs. A frame is a structural system that supports other components of a physical construction. Frame may also refer to: Building and construction framing, a method of building for creating framed structures. Picture frames are usually made of soft or hard wood, although other materials are also used, including aluminum or polystyrene, even sea shells. A picture frame may be of any colour or texture, but gilding is common, especially on older frames. Some picture frames have elaborate mouldings which may relate to the subject matter. The picture frame may contain a pane of glass or a plastic glass substitute such as Plexiglas, in order to protect the picture. In some instances where the art in the frame is dispensable or durable, no protection may be necessary. Glass is common over water colours, rare over oil paintings. Glass may be treated with various coatings, the most common being UV filters. Some glazings such as Denglas, Optium, and Museum glass have a coating which makes the glass partially non reflective and practically invisible under ideal lighting conditions.
