Artist Scott Kahn: 32" x 36". oil/linen. strip framed. Painted in the classic traditional technique of building up layers of oil paint, starting with an underpainting and adding subsequent layers of paint, to create a color-rich and smooth surface. The painting is varnished to add to the depth of color and protect the surface. The support is imported Belgian Claussen linen, known to last hundreds of years. "Autumn on the Downs" was inspired by a trip to Brighton on the south coast of England. The downs are gentle rolling hills which end abruptly, often with a steep cliff, at the edge of the English Channel. The sky over the Channel is often changeable and dramatic.
