What a fantastic blue Metal hardhat. This could be a military hardhat not sure? What a great hat for a motorcycle. Originally for Wartime, construction, or fire. What a wonderful old industrial hat. The hat is vintage and it has been recently hand-painted. Researched it as if it is a? Vintage WWII U.S. Military Steel Helmet With Cloth Liner. These were originally made for civilian workers but were also used by Civil Defense, and the US Merchant Marine on Liberty Ships, also used by the US military during training maneuvers.
These kind of hats were used by women around 1942-45. It may be more difficult to appear beautiful in a hardhat (even Rosie the Riveter’s bandana is pretty rockin’), but hard hats were the realities in hard times like war. And hats like this are a part of women’s history that shouldn’t be shunned for the pretty pinup version.
