Resources of the Southern Fields and Forests by Francis Peyre Porcher, M.D. Octavo, 9 ¼" x 6 ½" x 1 ¾" Charleston: Walker, Evans and Cogswell, 1869, new edition-revised and largely augmented (2nd edition). Octavo,¾ red leather with dark brown boards, gilt and embossed author and title inserts on spine with five raised bands, interior marbled end papers and boards, ruled edges. Dr. Francis Peyre Porcher was a physician from South Carolina. This book was intended for practical use as a guide to obtaining local botanical resources for use by both farmer, botanist and surgeon alike. The rear of the book has several pages devoted to advertising of such items as steam engines, drugs, watches and dry goods. Condition: Fair, heavy foxing throughout, brittle fly pages torn and or chipped and with taper repairs, corners bumped with losses. Spine faded with head and tail starting with possible glue reinforcement. Boards with faint water spots.
