Little antique hand carved ivory flower. This is a beautiful little hand carved ivory flower. It is a carved master piece of work. The piece is hand carved ivory and is very detailed. Within the flower you can see each individual petal and all of the carved ivory structure. The carving is exceptional and it's showing all of it's old age.

Ivory was usually obtained from the tusks of live elephants in India, and in Roman times, from North Africa. Ivory harvesting led to the extinction, or near-extinction of elephants in much of their former range. Carved ivory art were used only for the most precious religious objects. Very little ivory carving is done in the United States since the middle 20th century, as a result of extinction concerns.
