The majestic crest is orange, yellow, white and black gray in color and the bird has a flawless white soft polish. There are no feet on the bird. A fine piece for any bird lover. Ivory was usually obtained from the tusks of live elephants in India, and in Roman times, from North Africa. Ivory harvesting led to the extinction, or near-extinction of elephants in much of their former range. Carved ivory art were used only for the most precious religious objects. Very little ivory carving is done in the United States since the middle 20th century, as a result of extinction concerns.
