All forms of Buddhism acknowledge the existence of other Buddhas. The Pali canon recognizes twenty-eight Buddhas of the past, as well as Maitreya (Sanskrit; Pali: Metteya), the Buddha who is yet to come. Mahyna tradition teaches the existence of Buddhas. Ever since the arrival of Buddhism from Korea in the sixth century, alternative materials for sculpture had been introduced to Asia and many excellent pieces have been produced. Buddhist temples in particular were lavishly embellished with bronze and gold sculptures.
